boerne handmade market...

Hello pretties!  Can you believe that we are already midway through October already?  Christmas is going to be here before you know it...which makes me soooo happy because this is my most fave time of the year, but it can also be super stressful because it's present buying time.  Every year I say to myself that I'm going to start shopping early so then I don't have to worry about it at the last minute, and every year...I worry about it at the last minute...but this year I'm going to try and get a head start which is why I'm super excited to check out the Boerne Handmade Market in a few weeks!

Now as someone who has my own small business I fully support shopping small over shopping at the big box stores.  There is definitely something so special about gifting someone a handmade present, knowing how much love went into it and that it's usually something unique that you can't find everywhere.

I'll definitely be sharing all the goodies I find when I go on Nov 4th, at the Cana Ballroom in Boerne, but until then here are some of the vendors that I'm excited to check out!

So if you're local I would love to see your smiling face at the BHM and if not stay tuned on Nov. 4th as I share some amazing local vendors!

swinging into summer...

Well friends, summer is officially here.  That lovely time of bad hair days, sweat in places you shouldn't be sweating, and people wearing too short shorts and wondering if they own a mirror or just have really bad friends that tell them "omg those shorts look so cute on you"...yay summer...insert huge eye roll here.

Honestly summer is just the worst and the only thing that gets me through it is knowing that the fashion world is always a season ahead which means soon the stores will be full of sweaters and beanies and booties and I can pretend that I live somewhere that allows me to start wearing those things in fall when really I can't wear them until like December...damn you Texas!!

So how do I cope with the dreaded 120 degree days while still keeping my love of all things fall alive?  Well, one is really good air conditioning...and the other is you can still rock "fall" colors even though it's summer!!  I don't really do many pastels or neons, but give me something olive and I'm a happy girl...like this adorbs Swoop In Swing Dress from Tobi!  The swing shape makes it perfect for staying cool on a hot summer day, but the color make me feel like cooler days aren't far away...hey I'll do whatever it takes to get me through the heat!!  And since it's summer I paired it with my fave Free People pink booties and this crazy knot necklace that I got from a thrift store like a million years ago, but I can't wait til it's cooler to wear it with black tights and a chunky sweater!  It's definitely a piece that I will be wearing year round!!

back to work...

Do you know how lovely it is to have 10 days off from work?  Let me just tell you...it's the best...and today I have to go back...which makes me a little sad, because I would love nothing more than to not work, but I married J and not Ryan Gosling so yeah, I have to work.  But the last 10 days off have been much needed!  My little seester was here the whole time and there was lots of laughter, and food, and sleeping in, and shopping, and snuggling Henri, and basically just relaxing which I think was the perfect way to end last year and start out this year.

And yesterday we took a little day trip to Fredericksburg with the fam...and everyone is always telling me how cute it is, and there are all of these fun little shops etc...and...well...it kinda sucks!  Maybe I'm just spoiled from where I grew up, but I feel like I just spent the day surrounded by a bunch of yuck.  I mean if you like cowboy boots, and bling on everything, and turquoise, and the state of texas outlined on all of your home decor then this is the place for you, but for a "non-southerner" it kinda made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.  I just couldn't even deal.

On a happy note, I did find a cute dog store where I got Henri the most adorbs polka dot tie...you know for the days he has to go the office.  And I also found a fun hamsa pillow and some elephant pjs so it wasn't a total loss...but lets just say that a few hours in Fredericksburg was a few hours too many.  Do we think I will ever find a place near SA that I like??  We shall see...

sinuses are not black and white...

Another weekend...gone too soon...and here we are again with Monday.  So want to know a random fun fact about me?  Well it's not actually fun...it kinda sucks actually...my name is Melis, and I have sinusitis.  What is this weird word you ask?  Basically it means I get sinus infections...a lot...like a lot a lot.  This all started probably about 6 years ago.  I would get horrible pain in my face...like someone just punched me and then ran over my face with their truck...like a big truck.  And every time I went to my dr. he would do the same thing...look in my nose, look in the throat and say, "yeah it's really red and swollen, you have a sinus infection"...ugh no shit dude.  It got to the point where I would have them multiple times a month...and I tried all the meds and nose sprays and nothing seemed to help.
And then I moved to Texas...and little did I know that San Antonio is like the WORST PLACE EVER for people with sinus and allergy problems.  Probably should have done some research on that one because all of a sudden I kept having all of these problems I never had before...headaches, and rashes, and cracking in my face...yes I could literally hear it cracking...and the worse part is I had just gotten used to feeling like shit at some point pretty much every day.  It was rare that in the past 6 years I've had one day where I have felt good all day long.  I basically have just been living with all of these symptoms and it's become my new normal...which sucks, because who wants to live like that?
Well the good news it that I finally found an ENT here that gets it and after having a new CT scan and seeing how messed up my face actually is, this week I'm having a fun little procedure done called balloon sinuplasty.  So basically I'm relying on some balloons to fix my horribly jacked up face and while there is no guarantee that this will help, fingers crossed this will be exactly what I need.  And then when you see me smiling in my blog pics you will know that I don't secretly feel like total shit and like someone is kicking my skull in.  I can't even imagine what a "normal" face pain free day feels like, but hopefully on friday I will find out...and celebrate with champs and cupcakes of course!!  Until then, you can enjoy my adorbs black and white outfit with H, who also has allergies, but that's a story for another day!  Happy Monday loves!!

go home january...

You guys...this week, no joke, has been like the longest week ever.  Ugh January is just the worst.  It's so weird how even in texas you still get the January blues.  It's like all the fun times you had in December are a distant memory and now you have nothing to look forward to.  Even Henri has the January blues...poor guy just wants to run with me, but it's either too cold, or too dark out, or I'm too out of shape because I keep saying I'm going to start working out on Monday...oops.

And my laptop is totes messed up...I have no idea what happened to it but the bottom is like bulging out and it has to be plugged in to run...see even my laptop needs to go on a diet...poor thing is bursting at the seems.  I blame it all on mercury in retrograde.  Damn mercury just messes everything up...poo on you mercury.

Good news is, it's Friday and January is more than halfway over...hooray!!    Now we can look forward to February...the second worst month of the year.  In the meantime, H and I are going to pretend we love life and continue to look pretty for all of you lovely peeps that read the blog.  Yes that means you grandma!  Have an amazing weekend loves!

elephants and fur babies...

So as much as I complain about not having fall in texas I do love that at the end of October I can wear shorts and something about the mix of chunky sweaters and shorts just gets me every time.    You know what else I love?  Elephants and the all things olive...so basically this outfit is perfect!  Oh wait...there are also leopard pointy toe flats, an obnoxious tulle bow MRD, and an evil eye necklace.  I think I covered all my fave trends and then some because why wear one amazing thing when you an wear 5?  And you know what else is perfect?  My sweet baby Henri!

Seriously I don't know how we got so lucky with him, but he really is the best.  Plus he is so photogenic which makes him perfect for the blog...

Well...except this picture...I'm not sure what he's doing with his face here, but hey...we all have to start somewhere right?  So get ready to see lots more of him on the blog because why just visit to see adorbs pics of me when you can see adorbs pics of me and my fur baby...am I right or am I right?

Hope you guys have a fab weekend and a Happy Halloween!  Make sure and check out my insta to see Henri and I in our fave costumes...this is what happens when your only friend is your dog!  Yay me!
