shorts and bows

happy monday loves!  not to rub it in but i'm wearing shorts...in january.  which makes me giddy...until i get hit with crazy random symptoms from cedar allergies which i think is the single worst thing about texas.  i hope you never have to experience the horribleness that is cedar...ugh.  but anyways...speaking of texas (because you know that's all i do now), i'm finally starting to realize that this is now my home.  i know that sounds crazy, but i was writing my address down this weekend for something and it hit me...
i.live.in.texas.
and when i said that out loud, i didn't cringe, or long for my old home, or get super sad.  i think i have finally started to embrace my new home...because lets be honest...who doesn't want to wear shorts in january?

AND i have super exciting MRD news to share!!!  two of our new spring bands (that will be available next week when the shop reopens) are featured in the latest issue of Girls' Life magazine!  such a perfect way to start off the year for the line...i see big things happening this year...big things!!

black and white

it's a week into the new year and what have i accomplished?  well lets see...i watched the entire first season of House of Cards on netflix in a day...yes that means i sat on my ass for about 13 hours straight.  i worked out twice...which for me is actually pretty good.  tested out some new recipes, which were quite delish if i do say so myself.  went on a double date with one of J's fellow officers...hooray for new friends!  and have done a little too much online shopping.

sequin beanie: vintage, tee: urban outfitters, cardi: apricot lane, jeans: hudson

my goal for the second week of the new year...work out three times, read my library books, and start some spring cleaning...i like this new relaxing thing i've got going on...i should it do it more often!

bloom

seriously this has been the fastest year ever!  it's also been one of the most crazy and difficult years i've had.  a lot of crazy changes that lead to drama, stress, and challenges...but in the end i made it through, i learned a lot, and i am ready to start fresh with 2014!!  below are just a few fun highlights from my year.
MRD turband in print...and you might want to check out their first issue of 2014...just sayin'...
 i shot my first gun...it was scary...and weird...and i screamed a little.
i embraced wearing open toe shoes almost year round...
i worked on lots of flower crowns for my fave MRD retailer...Henri Bendel...
and i still pinch myself that this is real life.
i rocked some fun outfit posts...
and had my hair pretties worn by the original Bachelorette's daughter...
worked a little for Free People...
saw my husband's ass on TV...
celebrated our one year wedding anniversary...
finally saw our first musical in texas...sooooo funny...
 embraced my love of hats...

watched and squealed with delight every time an MRD was worn on Hart of Dixie...seriously coolest thing ever...
 learned to laugh more...
was first lady to the police academy's class president, winner of top driver and PT award, and the chosen one of Top Cadet.
finally found a little bit of fall in texas...
was so proud of J who is now SAPD!!!
 chopped my sister's hairs....again...

and was reminded that i do in fact have the best.family.ever.
so my word for this year is BLOOM.   i want to grow and blossom into my very best self this year.  i spent a lot of this past year focused on everything but myself and it's time to dedicate this year to yours truly...so get ready 2014 because i'm going to bloom into the most amazing thing i can think of...
me!

thirty one

today is my birthday.  and i am 31.
seriously when did time totally speed up and decide to make me so old?  maybe it's the fact that i work with a bunch of 18 year olds, or that fact that i don't really look or feel my age, but 31 seems so...serious.  like at 31 you should have the perfect job and a house and kids and dogs and eat fancy dinners on placemats....um...i don't even have a table...sad but true.

but that is ok because i am not serious.  part of me being me is that i don't take things too seriously...well most of the time.  this past year of my life has had so many ups and downs and yet i also feel like not much has happened.  i know that doesn't really make any sense but it's almost like all these things were happening around me yet i was standing still.  like i should have been doing something but i wasn't because it was all just too much to take in.  maybe that's what happens when you move...it takes a year for you to settle.

but settling is kinda boring.  i need some adventure and to explore.  so i've decided that 31 is going to be the year of me.  i spend a lot of my time focused on making others happy that i sometimes forget to take care of me and i think i've earned the right to be a little selfish.  it's time to take care of myself and figure out what my next step is.  i want to make an impact on world and in order to do that i need to stop and take a deep breath...or two...and focus and just be.  i need to live.  so 31...i'm ready for you.  lets make this the best year yet...and the best me yet!!
