dear grandma...

When I was 3 you made me watch a very scary version of Alice In Wonderland.  Honestly I don't think any child should have ever watched that movie, mainly because of that terrifying fire breathing dragon, but for some reason you thought it was a great idea.  And now, looking back, I feel like you were my very own dragon, but not one I was afraid of...one that helped show me how I should live my life...fierce, fearless, and full of fire.

I don't have a single memory of you that doesn't bring a smile to my face.  You were always so full of life and always there for every moment of mine.  From dance recitals and orchestra concerts, to musicals and birthdays you were always there to cheer me on.  And always wearing something colorful, like almost over the top, but you were bold, so wearing a head to toe red suit, you didn't bat an eye.
Bold and unapologetic.  You said what you wanted to say, when you wanted to say it...clearly I get that from you.  And you always brought the laughter.  I feel like we were always laughing, and singing, and dancing and just living for each moment when we were with you.

I'm sorry I'm not able to be there today.  To see your face once last time and wish you well on your next adventure.  But talk about luck that your final farewell is on 7/7...I hope you start playing those slot machines the second you find your fave casino in heaven.  I bet you'll bowl a perfect 300 now too.  You'll have to tell me all about it when it happens.

Thank you for filling my life with all of your love.  Thank you for giving me some of the best moments for the last 37 years.  Thank you for always making me feel important.  Thank you for being silly for no reason at all.  Thank you for being sassy.  Thank you for always making me eat dessert even when I was stuffed.  Thank you for making crewneck sweatshirts cool.  Thank you for sharing your stories.  And  thank you for gifting me with the most amazing mom.  I'm most grateful for that and I'll make sure and take care of her for you.

When I said goodbye to you during my visit in February I remember grabbing your little face in my hands and telling you I love you and to stay strong.  You were always so strong, but I think I knew then that you were at peace  and you were ready to go when it was your time.  And while I selfishly wanted so many more years with you, I will treasure what you gave me and I will live the rest of my life staying strong for you.
You were my sun.  That bright light that will fuel me to live my life with purpose each day going forward. You may have scared me with the dragon, but I think you knew exactly what you were doing.  You gave me permission to embrace being fierce, and fearless, and full of fire.  I am the dragon.  And I'll make sure to keep us all safe until we can be together again.

I love you grandma.  Make sure and give them hell up there in heaven!  And don't forget to visit...but as like a butterfly...not a dragon...because I think we've had enough crazy this year.  Miss you already and love you always.

happy birthday henri...

Happy Monday pretties!  Not only was yesterday Rex Manning Day...which as I mentioned in my insta stories if you don't know what that is then just stop reading this blog right now...but it was also Henri's 6th bday!!  So to be fair when we adopted H, he was already a year and a half old and they weren't really sure when he was actually born so this is his "official" bday aka the day we made up as his real bday and celebrate him!

And we had a lovely day!  It was sunny but nice and cool so we took several walks, he got lots of pressies, and ate everything from french fries to pizza to cake...we go big on birthday's!  And we also did one of his other fave things...blog pics.  No joke he loves taking pics...it's a little random but I'm not mad because the only thing that makes a fashion pic better is a fashion pic with a pup!  And he got to model off the newest addition bandana addition to Camden Lane available tonight!!

thermal tie ups...

Is it fall yet?  I swear, the warmer it gets in SA, the crabbier I get.  And while everyone else is still getting snow, I have to deal with 90 degree days...which for those of you in the snow I'm sure you're thinking

four year old fashion...

So as I'm writing this blog post, I'm getting super distracted because

sunday at the symphony...

Well Monday...you certainly came super fast this time around, but it's ok because I had a lovely weekend!  Saturday was a day of shopping and then snuggling with H after the stressful week that I had

my night with dashboard confessional...

It all started with a Camden Lane tee...well actually it started about 16 years ago...

sunday with my sister...

So last week I worked way more than usual since I'm taking off a day this week to go see Dashboard Confessional, so yesterday was technically my only day off.  And since my baby sister is in town we were going to spend the day at the zoo...until we got there and apparently everyone and their mother, and grandmother, and second cousins best friend's aunt decided that they also thought it was a good day to go the zoo...so after driving around trying to find parking we had to ditch the zoo and take my sister to my fave place...the pearl!

Yes, the same pearl I wrote about last monday because it's literally just the best...and my future home...so get used to reading all about it!  Since we got there early it was still cloudy and cool so it was perfect weather for walking around and people watching!  And perfect for some blog pics!!

And then J got home early from work and we got to have an impromptu date night which literally never happens.  Honestly with his schedule I've barely seen him the past two weeks so it was a really nice surprise!  I hope this means that the rest of the week will be full of happy surprises and all good things.

dog mom life...

Fun facts about being a dog mom AF...

farewell february...

So maybe it was because January felt like 27 years long, but February literally lastest like

love yourself...

Welcome to the week of love, friends!  It's Valentine's Day week, which let's be honest, really just means that I'll probably be drinking more wine that usual and eating heart shaped candies.  Good times!  But it is the perfect week to wear as much red, pink, and purple together as you can like this outfit!  Who would have thought that maroon and lavender would make such a good pair...well I knew, duh that's why I'm wearing it, but sometimes it's a good idea to leap out of your comfort zone and try something new.  To be bold and fearless and do something just because you want to do it!

I think a lot of times we get stuck in what feels comfortable.  We form habits and create thoughts in our heads that aren't necessarily the truth, but they become our truth.  It could be something simple like, there is no way I could pull off wearing a big sweater over a swing dress, or I can't wear navy and black.   But a lot of times it's something bigger like, I'm not good enough, or I failed and it's all my fault.

Well since it's the week of love, I'm encouraging all of you to be fearless with me, and love YOU...flaws and all!  To break up with things that are comfy and try something new.   It can be something little like wearing two prints together.  Or it can be something big like forgiving yourself for the "truth" that you know, and loving yourself enough to explore a new truth.  Because at the end of the day you have to love yourself...which I've said like 27 times already, but it's so true!  You have to know that you are amazing and you're ready to do your best.  You have to know that everyone falls down, and it sucks, but you can always get back up and try again.  And you have to know that the time to be fearless is now...and that I love you!  Kisses!!!

being a dog mom...

I feel like I say this every friday...but it's finally friday...thank you jesus!!!  You guys this week has been so cray!  There were some major changes at my job...all good for me, but it's just been a little stressful with how it all happened.  And honestly...

hot pink and camo...

Before we get all excited that it's finally friday, can we please take a moment to look at H's face?  I mean seriously, I don't know how I somehow got to adopt the most handsome dog ever, but it happened and just can't right now...but back to fashion...

ice storms and star tees...

Well everyone...I survived Icemaggedon 2018!  Basically the entire state of Texas was closed yesterday due to it being covered in a blanket of ice, which is honestly so funny to me because I'm from the midwest...if someone mentions ice storm you just roll your eyes and make sure you have an extra scraper for your car and go on with your day.  However in the south, people spend over an hour trying to scrape ice off with their credit cards and for some reason everyone buys like 3 dozen eggs to prepare.  Dude that's a lot of eggs...I mean if I know I'm going to be stuck inside all day then you best believe I'm stocking up on wine, cool ranch doritos, and bagel bites...not eggs...ugh texas.

But all this ice means I got a "snow day" which let me spend the day snuggling with H and giving the blog a little facelift!

mainstream boutique ootd #2: swing dress and a cardi

We're halfway through the week pretties and I am wearing another super cute outfit from Mainstream Boutique!  Since the weather in SA is so up and down layers are a must because you never know if you're going to be freezing or sweating...which is why I always have a chunky cardi on hand.  Like no joke the back seat of my car has like 5 of them just chilling waiting to be worn...but you can never have to many which is why I love this neutral cream one from Mainstream!  It goes with just about anything, but it's kind of perfect paired with this dusty rose embroidered swing dress!

mainstream boutique ootd #1: jeggings and distressed sweaters

Happy Monday pretties!!  We're a full week into the new year which also means I'm a full week into eating healthy, working out, and no bubbles...and excluding the occasional crazy moment of really wanting cake, I am feeling pretty good...and I'm really hoping I can keep it up this week!  And I'm also excited to be partnering up with an adorbs local shop, Mainstream Boutique SA, this week to show off some of their newest arrivals!

faux fur fluffs and empire records...

Growing up in the 80s/90s I am loving that some of the trends from my childhood are coming back...and some I am wishing didn't pop back up...like the damn scrunchie...ugh.  So one of the trends I'm loving back in my closet are cropped sweaters.  So obvi I'm not rockin' a crop top anytime soon because my summer body is hibernating, but the best thing about a crop sweater is that it's meant to be layered and you all know how I feel about layering.

And what am I layering it over?  Well this super adorbs shimmer dress duh!  Now when we got this dress in at my boutique the first thing I thought was, I literally owned this dress in high school, which totally made me need it like the second I unpacked it from the box.  I love that the shimmer is subtle so I can wear it during the day and not feel like I'm at homecoming freshman year.  And because it's a skinny strap dress, and my arms are the size of a very large christmas turkey legs, the logical thing to wear is with is a cropped sweater.

And the second I put this look together I instantly felt like a modern day Gina from Empire Records, minus the sleeping with middle aged rock stars in the break room...and if you have no clue what I'm talking about then just stopped reading now and never come to my blog again.  This outfit was just made for Rex Manning Day!!

And to give this look a Melis twist, I paired it with these amazing faux fur fluff socks that one of my oldest and bestest friends gave me.  Are these not the coolest socks you have ever seen...like for real, obsessed...and sooooo me!  Literally this outfit is perfect, so I'm off to damn the man and save the empire!!
